May I?

May I?

A Poem by A.J. Alexander
"

For A.S.

"

Allow me to arrive unannounced at your home,
to see you naked
with your hair tousled and uncombed,
entirely vulnerable and beautiful,
that way.

Allow me to run my hands over your face,
then map your skin with my fingertips
and explore with unfettered kisses
every square inch of your
body.

Allow me to call you on the phone at unholy hours
to talk or sing or cry,
or if you don't want that,
to just listen to your
breathing.

Allow me to take your hand in mine and tell the world
that I love you, I love you, I love you,
then hold my breath and wait
for you to say 'I love you'
too.

Or, if nothing else, allow me to smile
and whisper your name into the night
in hushed reverence, so much like a prayer
to my very own
diety.

It's so easy to slip into clichs when writing things like this, but you've succeeding in NOT doing so. :]

I love this so much! Well-written and I especially love your word choice... ^^
