To My Best Friend TugginA Poem by poetry loverAn imagined letter upon the loss of our last dog to his best friend. They loved to visit each other and play.
To My Best Friend Tuggin from Scooter.
Dear Tuggin,
Thank you for being my best friend
through my nine short years on earth.
Thank you for remembering me still.
You were always, and will be, my best
friend.
Remember those times we played together,
the day I visited you, the Champion,
play fly-ball?
(I’m sorry --you saw me, I upset your
score).
This Rainbow Bridge place has green
grass and trees,
Tiger, Nappy, Jolli, Rags, Archie
all play with me. The food is great --
but I miss you.
Thank you for the best gifts of fun
toys:
the bubble-maker that sent iridescent bubbles
floating to the sky when we were puppies;
the Snake, a Squirrel, stone-soap for my
mom,
Strawberry Bear, and more,
are still at my house. (I ate the
treats.)
I see that my new sister Cheyenne loves
those toys
so I hope you don’t mind that she plays
with them.
The small silver angel is something of
yours,
precious
to us all. Mom put it in a velvet bag
on top of my cedar box. She takes it out
to hold " I see tears run down her face.
One day I hope you’ll meet Cheyenne,
a firecracker sister, red-hair, quite
small.
I grew “too big”, the breeder said, but
was
just the right size to play with you.
I was glad of that, and lucky too.
My mom and dad didn’t care how big,
they just cared that I was happy.
Thank you for visiting to play that last
day;
I had so much fun!
I’m sorry I had to leave so soon,
but will think of you as time goes by.
Maybe we’ll play together again
on a day that’s still far, far away.
I won’t forget you, dear friend.
With love forever, from Scooter
