Leaves of Grief

Leaves of Grief

A Poem by poetry lover
"

short poem, elegy on losing our beloved dog

"

LEAVES OF GRIEF . . .

blow as bitter ash,

that fills my  world today

beneath a sky of heavy grey.

Nature moved and took away

my  cherished  rose;

she burned the petals

and dried the leaves,

all fallen  brown to the ground.

There is no joy in grasping at bare stems

of thorns.

(Elegy on the loss of Scooter, 2002 " 2011)

When the roses petals fall, it is a comfort to remember just how briefly they were with us, as a function of the life of the bush eternal. If one particular and unique blossom has faded and dropped, be consoled in remembering that there was a time your life knew not its pleasure, and will be a time when you know another's as intensely.
