Perils of the Sea

Perils of the Sea

A Poem by Jay Nowak
"

A captain at sea in his fight for survival.

"
Just a ship and the sea, built to withstand
traveling from shore to shore of distant lands.
Best crew in the world sleeps away under the deck,
Calmest night of the year, stars shimmered as specks.
The moon darkened down and the storms started to shape.
The rain pelted the sails and sailor's pale faces,
"Every man to the deck!" running along in their paces.
Waves rose and fell, collided and crashed.
Questions are asked of when will it pass?
Storms raged on and lightning struck the sails,
every life aboard the ship will never tell the tale.
Fire spread throughout and the ship sank down,
who of these men will live to tell the town?
Just a ship and the sea, at nature's disposal.
The captain begged Poseidon to accept his proposal.
"Take away my life but save my ship."
Poseidon laughed at the mortal and opened his lips.
The waters raced about and extinguished the coals.
Just a ship and the sea, now swallowed whole.

Really like it man. I could imagine finding this poem in a book at the bottom of the ocean. Poseidon can be a jerk.
