Kohayo's Betrayal

Kohayo's Betrayal

A Chapter by kannerjay

Kohayo had almost reached the labratory. He had to deliver this thing to the old man there before he could collect his reward and go to find another mission to do. He ran very fast for an elf; he was half demon, so it wasn't hard. His mother had been an elf, but his father a full-blood demon. He wasn't sure what kind. He didn't care, either.
Kohayo went straight through back entrance. He had been ordered to do so. He went down two hallways without event and turned right into the lab.
A man in a lab coat greeted him, seeing he had the requested cargo. Generally he didn't care what was done with the stuff he stole, but he always asked so that if later he was asked to steal it back, he wouldn't have to run back and forth everywhere trying to figure out what he was looking for and where it was. So he asked.
    " This, " the lab man said, " Is a brain. "
Kohayo was grossed out, but didn't care and continued to watch without changing expression. " What will you do with it? "
The old man who had paid him walked in to explain his vast project. He gestured to the entire room, and Kohayo looked around. There were about ten computers, all monitoring the tube in the middle of the room. That was pretty much it, which meant the tube was the main attraction. Kohayo walked up to it to get a better look.
There was a lizard inside. It blinked at him. Kohayo blinked back and turned around, angry at the man.
" You had me go get a brain for a f-ing lizard? "
The man chuckled. " This is no lizard. This is project Dako220. He is half machine, half dead lizard, plus eye lids so he can sleep with his eyes closed. Even now, without a brain, he is as smart as you are. Putting this brain in, he'll be able to comprehend even the deepest mysteries of life, except his own. He can tell the likelyness of any event and tell you all the outcomes. He'd make the best gambling tool invented. "
Kohayo liked the sound of it, though he wouldn't show it. He nodded and said. " Cool. Let's put the brain in and test it out. "
The professor had said he'd have to wait for the brain to be put in for him to leave with the price. So he watched as a needle let lots of green gas into the already green liquid of the tube. The lizard was knocked out, and the liquid and gas were both drained. Dako220 was taken from his tube and set on a table, limp, where his head was cut open, the brain put in, and stitched back up. It was all done quickly and easily. It looked like a practiced procedure.
" That procedure, " the professor said, " is top secret and cannot be shared. I doubt you'll have any use for it, but the world cannot know that brains can be put in and taken out. "
Kohayo agreed. Though he was a thief, he always kept his word, exact as it may be. The world wouldn't know. Not that he cared either way.
And the lizard awoke. He looked straight up, and pulled himself to a sitting position. He sat still as the operator told him to stay still as he put a pair of mini goggles around Dako220's neck. They were most likely so he could us be in airplanes without problem. Kohayo, personally, didn't care enough to ask.
" Tube, " Dako220 said, with an expression knew was distaste, but didn't know lizards could use. " Yuck. "
His vocabulary wasn't very big yet, obviously, unless he meant that the green liquid inside the tube was yucky. Kohayo decided this lizard would come in handy. He also decided that this lizard had no ties to this man in his head. So he snatched Dako220 up and ran out the door before anyone even yelled " Hey!"
Dako was freaking about for a second before Kohayo said, " With me, there's no more tubes, " and he relaxed. Kohayo ran the opposite direction he'd come , out the front entrance, and ran as fast as he could to a small city, where he didn't stick out so much, lizard on his shoulder or not. The tan lizard, speaking of which, seemed quite comfortable.
" My name is Kohayo. We'll be working together from now on. "
" My.. name is Dako, and I'm an android. "
