You're In My Hands

You're In My Hands

A Poem by jessiemei
"

I was inspired one night in ninth grade...and this tank of a poem came out. I still don't know how I could have produced this...

"

I possess the power to control a human’s life

I’m with you every second, even when you dream at night.

I’m no substantial being, a spirit, or a God,

I exist outside your reasons and theories; I’m beyond.

Some of you believe in me, some of you refuse

But I continue to exist, no matter which you choose.

There are individuals whose lives are in my hands

And I am there the moment that their lives take an advance.

Some can only trust me when a desperate moment comes,

They take their chance with bravery that’s absent when they run.

I’ve had to do some gruesome things that always break my heart,

But you should know, they had to be, they were planned from the very start.

Yes, that was me; I was there at the funeral of your daughter.

And sadly, I was present with the inhumanely slaughtered.

That’s my job for everyone, to watch over from your birth,

Up until your final breath and weepings of your worth.

Despite the ugly things I’ve done, I bring life’s precious beauties,

I am here to shape your path, not block it, it’s my duty.

So when you fear those obstacles obscuring your success,

Remember that it’s nothing but one of my vicious tests.

There’s a part of human nature in which I am more involved,

But know that I can’t work alone, without my dear friend, love.

Love, she is the greatest thing a person’s life could have.

Our tasks that we perform, we do it hand in hand.

Love is the greatest presence cast upon the heart and mind.

However, making conflict; the mind questions, and the heart, blind.

It happens when you find yourself within another soul,

Then you become inseparable from the one who makes you whole.

Love and I, we work to make the greatest found romance,

We’ve done it all: from best of friends and yes, love at first glance.

We’ve accomplished many works, the greatest and obtrusive

Loves that destroy, and harmonize, and even the abusive.

There is a kind of love that is the harshest of its kind,

It’s love that’s unrequited, that will crush the heart and mind.

The toughest one to deal with is passion that’s forbidden,

For when your feelings conquer you, it’s hard to keep it hidden.

But of course as all works do, romance, it has its flaws

We don’t always get it right, and thus results in loss.

Other times I purposely put hindrance in the way,

Heartbreak’s solely there so you can learn from your mistakes.

Humans have their own free will and misinterpret means,

They stray from what is meant for them, and then I intervene.

I’m responsible for those and more, your destiny I create,

I’m there for all your rise and falls, who am I? I am fate.
