HarmonyA Poem by jay geenenThe title says it allHarmony Sitting here in the stillness of the morning Trying to scratch down words of wisdom In the peace of the park, with the greenness Of the grass, the dark green of the towering Firs, And the silver blue of the sand cherry clump Things are alive and as they should be. Song sparrows sing peaceful lullabies Crow’s cries pierce the harmony As they battle for who knows what And the words alit onto the paper Other birds add their own tune Mitigating the crows harsh calls Thus providing an urgent sense of peace. And for a moment all is quiet Except for the water sounds As a small rill rushes toward the ocean And once there to be totally forgotten Among the abyss of the fathomless sea. Is life like this? Green with the grass and towering firs Silent and loud all at the same time A paradox, a wish to be forgotten A journey, as the water, with an Unknown end, to be a small part Of an immeasurable sea. Is this what the peace of the park brings? And the birds sing lullabies To bring back the center For the reality is here and not the ocean The future dims reality Smell the air, hear the birds sing, Look, see, listen, hear Scratch words onto paper But there is no wisdom, only peace Only harmony, for the sand cherry Can not tell the grass it is the wrong color, And the grass can not tell the firs they are too tall, And the firs can not tell the sand cherry they are too silver it’s just a simple harmony Yet we as humans routinely Sit in judgment Courts, police, lawyers, clerks All seem like the grass Telling the firs they are too tall Maybe things should be simple Like sitting in the park listening To the birds sing
