The PoetA Poem by jay geenenA love poemThe Poet If I was a great poet I jolt down some words To say if I was happy or blue Or would write of a love That’s come into my life Can we possibly see our way through? If I was a sculptor My hands would form the clay Or a painter, with oils in hand Onto the canvas an image of you would appear. If I had a lot of money I would take you where you never been Or a poor man, would only have one thing And that’s the company he could give. We could voyage to the sun By some uncharted course To watch spectacular forces Held within. Or we could cross the great divide That separates time To look at the mirror As to see who we are. We could find out what really mattered How to build a friendship That could survive By a tender caress in the cool still evening air. We could watch the sun set On the lake back home See a million Zillion little suns All caught in the wavelets All disappear. We could see acts of kindness Toward each other and other folks Make us grow stronger And fill us out with hope. Or we could find some time For a moment or two Just for a hug To say I care about you. If I was a great writer I would write an epic story About our journeys in life Can it be? Do we bring peace to each other? Being gentle as we can To hold, to hug to worry about on a cold night That we make it home. Do we sail the seven seas Maps at hand, charts to tell us where we are going To see if we can Find what we are looking for.
