Depression

Depression

A Poem by jc
"

Just a stream-of-conscious-type flow. I need to write my thoughts down some times. Here's a look inside of my brain.

It’s perpetual.

Boundless.

Relentless.

It comes for you unprejudiced.

It steals your happiness. Your courage. Your hope. Your life.

There is no way out.

It’s a life sentence to your own mind.

Sometimes you think you’re out - free.

And just like that, you’ve violated your probation.

Back to the slammer you go.

I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t get better.

It does.

But just when it gets better, it gets worse.

The happier you are, the more it hurts when it hits you again.

It’s the ultimate labyrinth.

You feel like you’re closing in on the exit, and next thing you know, you’re lost again.

The truth is, there is no way out.

This is a monster that we have to battle day in and day out.

This is everything terrible and horrible that you have to choose to take hold of and defeat.

There’s no promise that every day will be a good day.

No one is saying that you’ll be cured or fixed.

It will always be there, haunting your darkest corners; coming for a surprise visit at the most inopportune times.

But not every day will be bad either.

You have to wake up every morning and make a choice.

Are you going to let the beast break you down today?

Do everything you can to avoid an encounter with the monster inside of you.

It’s not avoidable, but the more you feed it, the more power it will have over you.

Stop feeding the beast.

Make. It. Starve.

Loved this poem.

"It will always be there," is such a true statement. It won't go away. It can appear anytime, and when it does appear again, life feels horrible.

This is very true to a lot of people and not a lot of people understand. It's sad that people don't understand and judge. It's getting more recognition but its still not enough.

Then the people who want support and people ignore it and don't help. It's sometimes tough asking but asking and people ignore, people don't feel loved and sink deeper.

Great job on this poem. People need to be more aware of this. There is strong emotion here behind this. Excellent job.
