Winning at Life

Winning at Life

A Poem by Jay Steitler
"

Different definitions of winning. Development of the piece, was an emotional process. Not sure I'd finish. It still may not be "finished". Time will tell.

"
Winning is not some ginned up joke,
from a bloke with a bad habit!

It's about redness abating in the stump of a limb long lost,
indicating infection's subsiding.

Fever's broke! You may live another day.

It's about overcoming fears,
that have plagued you for years.

It's about coming to realization,
the many facets of yourself & others,
without having to idealize things.

Its about receiving the pride that comes from mother's love,
even when you didn't abide by her every wish.

Winning is the privilege of witnessing a child gleefully muse over a puppy,
being in the moment.

It's about the acceptance of friends,
and knowing the difference from shysters,
who would pilfer and heist everything you are.

You see, winning cannot be isolated to any one thing,
allowing you to thrive.

It is the sum all parts, allowing you to feel truly alive.

A quick treat, again whipped up like a midnight snack. Overly simplistic/hokey title, that I took two cracks at, but this is the best one I could think of.

Winning at life is a perfect title. The worship of false gods and 'profit' will never come near to the stuff that really matters.

Beccy.

PS. Loved your poem 'coffee' especially the first line, which tells me you're a winner.
