Manipulated and Misconstrued
A Poem by Jay Steitler
My most straightforward-in-meaning, poetry yet. Getting a handle on packaging of pentameter here.
Manipulated and misconstrued. Not an angry person, just dismayed with you. Projecting on others and deceiving yourself. When no longer useful, your friends are shelved. I put in the time, with caring and love, Handling your unstable emotions with kid gloves. You are not your nickname, just the saddest thing I know. I know that's news to you, and quite the blow.

What I like the most about this poem is that all of the anger reflected in your earlier poems really isn't reflected in this one. The words "You are not your nickname, just the saddest thing I know" really portays a resignation and a sympathy for her, and I really think that's beautiful. There seems to be an acceptance here; and albeit slight, there almost seems to be a sort of forgiveness over the horizon. The sun seems to be warming your skin; and in the process, unhardening your heart.
Well done.

It stems from yesterdays understanding that she has issues, its no one's fault, and I'm not responsible for anyone's actions(a best friend woke me up to this.). Thanks for the kind review. My best stuff, comes up over breakfast :)

I think we feel anger when we feel betrayed, which is really a reflection of the anger that we feel towards ourselves for trusting someone that we have since learned shouldn't have been trusted. We, therefore, learn to mistrust our own ability to judge others and wish we could retract the love we had given. There is no wrong in loving another, and we can't hate ourselves when things turn out differently than planned. We have to accept the imperfections, forgive and mend the relationship, or forgive and set our feet on the path of a new journey. I know it's easier said than done when you're in that situation. We have to move at our own pace, reflect, and forgive as we can, knowing, in the end, that we gave it our all.

I have someone who had been a dear friend, who has a domestically violent partner. Whenever he gains control, I'm left in the cold, in spite of previous unconditional loyalties. Today was one of those days. However, yes, the best poetry comes from pain.
