life among the rats

life among the rats

A Poem by Jay Bailey
"

people pretend to be someone they are not and eventually get found out. lives get ruined, trust betrayed, your insecurity is malignant and infectious.

"
we lose each other in the end
it happens how it always does
one presents there self under false pretenses
and cons the other into submission

a wolf hollows out a sheep
and creeps among the flock
one of us
not to me
I'm no longer fooled by smiles
the first lesson liars learn
is how to sell it

i have no room for salesmen in my life
i will shed you like the others
who tried to latch themselves to me
and found themselves starved for protein

my blood carries no life
my talents will not hold a foundation
and you are just another fool
who thought he could build here
i judge little men not by the length of their legs
but by the distance there heart is willing to go

it was easy to live among rats
when i was a young man
but you get tired of walking in s**t
this used to feel permanent
now its only temporary
i will outlast you all
thats the difference between us
