hawk reminders

hawk reminders

A Poem by Jay Bailey

i watched a hawk pull feathers out of a birds back for an hour
there was another hawk in the distance, on another building, just standing there
the hawk used its massive muscles to stand on this bird
and pull the meat from its bones with his beak
it was one of the most intense things i've ever seen
the cycle of life
in all its ugliness and beauty
reminding all of us
that its right there in front of our eyes
we just choose not to see it
what else are we not seeing
what have we forgotten
are we lost in this society
this civilization only brought deeper pains

life feeds on life
the dead become a thousand feathers
falling off a lamp post
littering the ground
around the school campus

life just is
it asks no questions
it waits for no answers
life is going without you
you are either a part of it
or you are not
the decision has always been yours
the problem
lies in the courage within you
