Love by DissentA Poem by jawdriscollA poem recalling the thoughts of one young man after the discovery that his lover was playing with his feelings rather than being true about their relationship.Love By Dissent Why keep loving you stranger, When I never met the truth. I can only say I know your face, The joy and pain, but who: That which flooded my heart, An ecstasy regarding life. Yet a ration of cognition, Guiding my thoughts, Suppressed the feeling. While you, fallacious, Could carry on: Your harlequin mask, Exciting me falsely. Touching you, falling, Drowning at your feet, You tied me up, a puppeteer. Controlled my heart, My body and affection. But my mind still strong, As you know, had freed me. And the guise of love, true desire, Balked in madness. And now scarcely can I feel, That which you’ve drained of me. And upon the Masquerade, My judgment leaps before my heart. And now that I have met the truth, I have yet to know your true visage. © 2010 jawdriscoll |
