Lament No. 2

Lament No. 2

A Poem by Kermit Gildersleeve

My Demonic Tutor

Sits on my shoulder

Whispering

Sulfurous nothings into my ear

"Do this", He says

" ANd you will be happy"

"Do this", He says,

"and you will be content"

"Do this", He says

" And you will quench

The Fiery longing

for fulfillment"

I nod my head

In stupor

Obeying his wish

He laughs and giggles

with opulent glee

As I writhe and wither

In the pain

I caused myself

at his behest
