Ancient Ruins

Ancient Ruins

A Poem by Kermit Gildersleeve
"

More of an ode than an expression of my feelings.

"

Gods etched in stone,

Strike poses in Bas Relief,

on the smooth mossed sides,

Of palaces and temples,

lines and glyphs,

symbols of peoples,

mysteries and secrets,

lost to the flow of the waters of time,

Blowing sands,

and reaching jungle,

The forces of nature and life,

strive to tame the works of Men's hands.

symbols of peoples,

mysteries and secrets,

lost to the flow of the waters of time,

Blowing sands,

and reaching jungle,

A most beautiful ode to what once was~the stone-sculpture/carvings ,

mysteries and secrets of what time has washed away

nicely expressed in lovely flowing verse

I really liked this piece, but maybe that's jus tthe archaeologist in me.... the only thing I might suggest is to take out some of the commas, they distract from the flow in places. Overall, I enjoyed immensely.
