DreamsA Poem by Kermit GildersleeveA dream of mine.Sorrow fills my heart oftimes Because I am an Astronaut But only in my dreams I look up to the Blue-Black Dome of the Sky See the thousand glistening pinpricks The Mottled disc of the moon Feel the light of a million Alien worlds on my face And I dream I see pictures in books Of the beauties of the void Nebulae, Novae, Quasars and clouds The distant fragile spirals of far-away galaxies, And my soul aches I dream of a ship, not of steel but wood, sails, and rigging with which I could travel The cold trackless deeps But I hang my head in sorrow For I know my dreams are but Dreams That cannot come true I am bound to Earth And can only Travel the stars In my heart
