Blood of the Innocence

Blood of the Innocence

A Poem by Jasper
"

Another suicide bomber in Kandahar...

"

Eternal hatred is not how it ends

As plastic filled backpacks and boxes of screws

   Cut through this marketplace

   Lighting the fuse

   Bathing the fruit in blood,

Leaving the children to clutch at their mother

Dead on the pavement her body in shreds

   Stroking the cheek of

   Her severed head

   As silence engulfs the innocence,

Hanging from streetlamps or stoned in a pit

As least we are helping restore marshal law

   UN envoys

   Involved in a war

Transported home in black plastic bags

   Roadmap for peace

   Lying in rags

Soaked in the blood of the innocence.
