For Russell

For Russell

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

For Russell

I should have been a better brother

Because to me, you're like no other.

How I sobbed to see a suicide note

And  ached with the words you wrote.

I kept a close eye, to protect you

But I was clueless of what to do.

You should know I never meant to disavow

And I am so glad we are closer now.

When I was young, You were my  best friend

I promised to protect you till the end

But I hurt you and I neglected you

I apologize because I truly love you.

And before I forget, I must just say

Have the most wonderful birthday

Ohhh~ What a sweet poem~!
The last two lines really wrapped it all together like a ribbon wraps a birthday gift!
Good job!
