Taught to Flock

Taught to Flock

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

Taught to Flock

If birds of a feather flock together,

Then it haunts me why some are born better.

Naturally, who can we call the best

And what then makes him better than rest?

Him not her, for she is made for lesser

When his rib gave a wicked birth to her

To be damned for defying his father.

But, aren't we all taught  from mother?

Defying the father makes you lesser,

Less than the lowest,  filthiest sinner

To be damned for not having a blind belief.

But, aren't we all taught to look before we leap?

The wicked lovers are made for lesser,

For one love, man and woman's, is better

To be damned are those loving diversely.

But, aren't we all taught our souls are lovely?

If each one of us have been taught the same,

Then it haunts me why only some feel shame.
