Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

The educated man sleeps sound tonight

And the educated woman just cries

Beneath the rainy clouds and street light,

That Flickers and hisses  before it dies.

The ignorant man sleeps with fits tonight

And the ignorant woman just holds him

Beneath the crumbling roof and the moon's light

While she sings aloud hope and love with hymn.

The pure child sleeps  forever in a black box

And in the Lamb's  arms that forever rocks.
