Joys of the Small Ones

Joys of the Small Ones

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

Pittering and Pattering of small feet,

Giggling and chuckling of small voice,

Rummaging and rifling for  small sweet,

And banging and clattering of small toys;

T'ese are joyous noises of having child

Whose small energies be utmost boundless,

While asleep are sound, when awake hog-wild,

Always finding which nerve they want to test

Whether smashing and grabbing of small china,

Covering the big house with small mud fall,

Or asks of the penis or vagina

And whether or not theirs is big or small!

T'ese are the bitter-sweet moments of young,

Lasting very shortly before they have sprung.

The "Joys of the Small Ones" is a slice of heaven. The writer has captivated his interest in simplicity of childhood. However, I find that sometimes it can also be the most a b s t r a c t filled with creativity. We value the statues of youth, my friend.

"Or asks of the penis or vagina/And whether or not theirs is big or small!"

This part made me chuckle because children are so gross yet curious.

Nice work, my friend. :)
