I lay clenched

I lay clenched

A Poem by Jason Kiba
"

Storm in the sheets

"

I lay clenched
Arched in the sheets, raked over my head
Cowering in the incalculable storm
The very Universe, swirls
Howls and wails and whips
And I its eye
Its gasping center
Clasping my sane heart
Fleeing disintegration
The shearing questions
The seismic answers
The thoughts like thunder
Inescapable
Crashing as lash
My teeth against teeth
Seething the words
The chorusing, dissonant shrieks
That tore the sky asunder
saying How?

                 What?

                          Why!?

The World falling, in murmurs
And I weakly rising
Raindrops of my soul, cast wide
Dripping and gathering
Pieces of sky
As Sunlight filters me
Lights my surviving heart
In a spreading, seeping stain
of the color of me
Wove in new patterns
The same, blooming, deathless hue
Of my truest, gentlest, image of you
Lancing everyday through
My Song
Until the next storm
