An Open Mind Leads To Realization

An Open Mind Leads To Realization

An Open Mind Leads To Realization

Its finally happened,

All the drinking, drugs,

And unhealthy living has

Finally caught up to me.

It sat on my shoulders

For years and years,

Whispering pseudo-excitement

In my ear while laughing

In secret,

The weight sinking me further

And further into bleakness.

Now I feel older than my days,

Waking up sick and tired

Depressed and crazy,

Angry at anyone that is

Happy and successful…

The streets mock me with

Youthful, smiling faces,

Regret sinking fangs

Into my head and filling

My thoughts with poison.

When the hazy veil of

Inebriation is lifted reality will

Spit a sickened gob of

Horrifying clarity into

Your dumb face.

That’s when the crossroads appear.

You’ve got two choices;

Blackout your reality with

Bottles of ignorance

Or find that lost courage and

Fling yourself into a

Current of change.

If you study the absurdity

And ridiculousness of the

Intoxicated culture it’s

Not a hard choice.

I’ve finally realized that

It takes more guts to try

Something different in life

Than to flog myself with

A stubborn oppressed mind.

A slow suicide is for the weak

Who are afraid of the worlds

Joyousness and unscripted experiences.

Yes your words are true. Easy to find in s**t and be ok with it. Hard to god forward and try to find success. But in the ending. Better to try to be clean and hold on to great dreams. A very powerful story. A excellent poem.

"Give strong drink to him who is perishing and wine to those with heavy hearts, let him drink and forget his poverty and remember his misery no more."
Proverbs 31:6-7 Holy Bible~ But for everyone else they need to legalize pot. lmao

you do bukowski grit in a style all your own. it's a harsh life you're showing, but always with a phrasing that elevates it from the hastings gutters. i've decided the worst gutters in the western world surely are those..

hey sidebar! i wish i'd had the mental faculty to take a pic, but i was too stunned. during the olympics they cleared out all the crackheads and powerwashed the streets. dude. there was noone there! i SAT DOWN IN PIGEON PARK AND DIDN'T GET STABBED IN THE A*S BY A NEEDLE! even the crackhead fleamarket corner got wiped clean of the human detritus. in one way it was nice, in another? horrifyingly scary! even pushup guy was nowhere to be found! where did they all go? and how are they all back now?

The more of your words i read..the more i am enthralled by it all..This is a very very well written piece i have tried sending as many read requests as i could for this.It has a very powerful message conveyed. It sat on my shoulders
For years and years,
Whispering pseudo-excitement
In my ear while laughing
In secret,
The weight sinking me further
And further into bleakness.
all these means of escape, unhealthy lifestyle..they simply pile on one another..until one day you realize and then you have to make the choice.Am glad you have realized there is more to life than being flogged by a stubborn mind..:)

and drink plenty of water!

time to settle into the wilds of life and be high on the sincerity of nature. Bring along all those stories though, in the down time between forging rivers and what not the pages will be calling the pages will be calling.

Great advice, Jason. It sounds like you've been there. I was, too. You've crafted a very nice piece of writing. Sam
