Each Year We Grow Closer ApartA Poem by JC
We start out into the
Nostalgic night of our youth, My old friend and I, Popping beer cans To ease the light conversation Into deeper waters. Everywhere we look Memories flood our Old brains with the Delightful anarchy Of our child selves. My best oldest friend Lives now in a cage Of life Children The sorrowful complexity Of a bad sad marriage. I wish I could Saw his prison bars And set his fiery Soul free. Instead, We drink ourselves Into a stupor, Parting ways As the sun rises.
