Meaningless stars

The pop star hits the stage,

a heartfelt, melodic tune

with lyrics of pain and anger

at the state of the world,

how people struggle and strive

just to stay alive...

You feel it,

you're brought to tears

and you wonder why

we all don't just

do the common sense thing

but the pop star

gave you no answers,

just reeled you in

with emotion and imagery

and in so doing so

achieved fame

and unthinkable wealth

that supports their

drinking, partying...

no one without beauty

and success is allowed

into the circle...

none of that fortune

will land in the hands

of the ones who truly

need it,

just the resounding

echoes of meaningless

lyrics....

I suppose we are all guilty of this in some way at some time, but can feel less sleazy about it because we are not them.

This reminded me of a quote by Mother Theresa:
"We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty."

The hypocrisy of it all stinks does it not..very few bands give back to the causes they write about which I think is not only sad...but morally wrong somehow. a nice social commentary in free verse JC.
