The Closer I Get

The closer I get to death

the more beauty I 

see in the world,

in women especially...

I will trace your curves

in my mind,

become maddened

by the way your foot arches

or how your leg flexes

when you stand on your toes

to reach into a cupboard....

The closer I get to death

the more I am convinced

women are the Gods

of earth and all creation....

Being not so young and in poor health, this has deep, special meaning for me. The closer I get to the inevitable, I really do see more beauty in the world. And with women, I can look at one my age, remember how she appeared as a teen, and still see her that way.

It's interesting how our perspectives widen and how much more lucid and real things become right? I guess we are lucky to experience life at all, and who knows what lays beyond.
