The Closer I Get

The Closer I Get

A Poem by JC

The closer I get to death
the more beauty I
see in the world,
in women especially...

I will trace your curves
in my mind,
become maddened
by the way your foot arches
or how your leg flexes
when you stand on your toes
to reach into a cupboard....

The closer I get to death
the more I am convinced
women are the Gods
of earth and all creation....

The first three lines of this poem reminded me of my poem "Forgotten." This truly is a beautiful, mesmerizing poem. You have a way with words, Jason.

I am a person of detail and appreciate your extent of description on this piece. I am glad I read this.

Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Leanna, that means a lot to me.
Being not so young and in poor health, this has deep, special meaning for me. The closer I get to the inevitable, I really do see more beauty in the world. And with women, I can look at one my age, remember how she appeared as a teen, and still see her that way.

It's interesting how our perspectives widen and how much more lucid and real things become right? I .. read more
This poem might be the best thing I have read in a while.
I love the way you look at women. More men should look at females like this.

Bravo!

I have to say, this is pretty amazing, not just as a poem specifically about women, but also as a voice for much humans love the little things. Unfortunately, we spend so long looking at the big picture that we forget until it's too late. Really, really enjoyed this.

What an enchanting piece of work!
It is true for us all that time is the greatest teacher,
and lessons are often realized a little too late.

This was the kind of poem that is a treat to read,
both as a woman and a lover of good poetry.
Lovely.

Thanks VM, that means a lot to me that you enjoyed this and felt it.
Wonderful work!

I believe in a way, you only see the beauty of someone after you have been with them for quite some time. It's a great thought knowing that whoever you're with, they can still drive you mad for just being themselves.

Can we get an amen brother, just kidding, but truly as woman who wouldn't love a poem adoring women? I think as men become mature a respect grows, and that kind of respect is a beautiful thing to witness and to read.
