Last Drive

Last Drive

A Poem by Jarrai

Last Drive

Deserted,

A dusty dirt road billows a choke-hold cloud,

As my tires, tired of time, accelerate to the end

                   You were a carcinogen caricature,

A carnivorous cancer eating away my heart

With one last pass down memory lane

Those days of sunshine and smiles,

Fade

       Away

With the close of the last act

That jealous joker jinxed us

Stealing your ghost, from between twisted metal and bark

A breach of contract to say the least

But,

Where were you when I needed you the most?

Doesn't matter anymore

The trail

It

Darkens

I can see

Life

Wither from the trees

The dusk swallows the dust

I knew things would change

But despair

Knew not of this blood

Hitting a tight bend

The engine breaks down,

Look,

The double edged scythe swings.

sitting amidst the blood and oil

There is no escape from this wreck

Watch as the reaper sings,

No escape

No escape

No

Escape

I found this poem fascinating in form and potent in message. Powerful delivery of unexpected tragedy ends this poem on a sobering note. Great work
