Plankton & Me

Plankton & Me

A Poem by Jaye Yee-Vandalyn
"

A poem about never letting anyone dim your light

"

If you don’t know Plankton
Bioluminescent " Plankton
You don’t know me

They loiter in cold
Nightly waters
Patient, dim and silent
You barely know they’re there

If you haven’t seen Plankton
You haven’t seen me

You probably have never -
Agitated Plankton.
They glow gorgeous -
Alluring, jaw-dropping, mind-numbing kind of

Now if you know Plankton
Bioluminescent " Plankton
You would know never to hurt me

Blessed with a nervous system
That’s hardly nervous
I shine brighter when you put me down
You get more distracted from my insecurities
to start reflecting yours

Don’t you pity me when I crash
For I illuminate all obstacles in my path
A trial blazing glow in the dark hope

For the smallest of creatures
Can leave the most magnificent of legacies
