A Penny Wish

A Penny Wish

A Poem by jane kelley

A Penny Wish

I cast away the shadows
With a tiny magic spell
And threw my dreams and wishes
Into this empty well

I dropped a penny in
Just to listen to it fall
When all of a sudden
I heard a wee voice call

Don’t give up on fantasies
Come closer peer inside
You wished me into being
Now it’s time for a magical ride

I looked down into that well
and much to my surprise
There were pink banana trees
And silver palms swaying inside

The voice was like a siren
Tempting me to surrender my fears
And join her in sweet reverie
As she whispered Come, my dear

I closed my eyes tightly
as inside I began to fall
I think I'll live there always
and never come back at all

I really like the tale told here and throwing dreams and wishes into an empty well can be the right thing to do sometimes ! The mind is so powerful. Nicely done. Penny :)
