Do You Remember?

Do You Remember?

A Poem by jane kelley

Do You Remember?

 It is midnight,

 and I cannot sleep.

 I put on my sweater

 and begin to walk

 through the woods.

    The moon is behind

a cloud, I wish it to come

 out and shine on me.

I want to make a wish.

I begin to shiver as the

 wind whispers to me...

Do you remember?

Did it really say that, or

   is my mind wandering?

 I continue slowly through

 the woods, leaves rustling

 beneath my bare feet.

 Suddenly I see an old

 wooden bench, intricately

 carved, by some master's hand.

I am saddened to see this

bench left behind by it's maker.

 As my fingers gently touch

 each carving, the lost music

fills the trees, as their leaves

 begin to dance.

     The wind cooly brushes

  against my arm and again

   whispers........

      Do you remember?

Of course I remember, I say

   to myself..  I remember the

first time I ever saw the one

  who changed my life.

I remember his touch as we

 held hands.  I remember the

way his eyes so softly lit up,

  whenever he saw me.

 I remember the sweetness

of his kiss.

Only, it was so long ago.

 The moon is shining brightly

   on my tears.

 again, the wind whispers.......

   Do you remember?

 I answer

with all my heart and soul,

   Yes...... I remember..

        I always will

What a beautiful poem! And such great picture to complement the expressed setting! From the beginning to the very end my full attention was thoroughly won.
"As my fingers gently touch
each carving, the lost music
fills the trees, as their leaves
begin to dance."
I enjoy reading the whole poem, and especially this part when the mind is furnished with nostalgic (if I may) memories, and you're reunited with blissful, romantic events... The poem has somewhat of a mysterious stream, with the recurring question arousing our sense of curiosity to the end, where we finally feel satisfied.

Beautifully done!

Thanks for sharing.
