Three Little Words

Three Little Words

I wanted to write you a letter
to express my innermost feelings
but all the words I can think of
just aren't too very appealing

They all seem so trivial
so ordinary and so plain
so I crumpled up the paper

and just began again

I'm looking for some special words
that when you read you will know
instantly how I feel about you
and how you make my heart glow

Perhaps I should wait till we're together
then you could see it in my smile
that I always cherish
being with you for awhile

I could whisper my love
as my lips touch your ear
words spoken so softly
so no one else could hear

I know you've heard the words
and have known them from the start
the day you took my breath away
the day you stole my heart

l have to use some borrowed words
used for many years
I treasure your friendship
and I long to hold you near

So, my dear, for as many days
as God allows me to breathe
I want to always be with you
and I give you my love to keep

I've chosen three little words
the only ones that will do
ones written for centuries
they are simply

 ~I love you~
