Glinda My Teapot

Glinda My Teapot

A Poem by jane kelley

Glinda My Teapot

Over the rainbow
is where I always wanted to be
and somehow it happened
I'm here having tea with Dorothy

Here comes the scarecrow
the tin man and the lion
oh I wish that lion had more gumption
within his spine

It's a beautiful day
said the tin man to me
I love my new heart
since more beauty I can see

We were having such fun
all of us wishing to speak
when I huge black raven came
with a monkey in his beak

You shouldn't be doing this
no fun is allowed
since you killed my friend, the witch
then he soared up to a cloud

I'm looking for Glinda
to find her I must flee
to teach her a lesson
for changing Oz history

We looked at the scarecrow
for now he had a great brain
but alas he was clueless
then it began to rain

There upon the yellow brick road
came the Professor and he was mighty mad
that raven better leave Oz
or I'll make sure he wishes he had

We sat there gloomily so very sad
when the tin man started to rust
we needed to go to the Emerald Castle
since it would soon be dusk

Dorothy, holding Toto, said
please have no dread
I'll try to think of something
while we all go to bed

We awoke the next morning
and on the breakfast table before our eyes
was that raven and poor Glinda
who was now a teapot which was a surprise

Now she can't bring you anything
no more fun or happiness
Toto bit the raven
then he flew off to the west

Glinda's dress was a peach color
it should have been pink
it had little silver stars all over
which made it pretty I think

On her head was a crown
and a silver star wand in her hand
then she winked at us
and whispered all will be right in this land

We poured hot water inside
while the tea was steeping
she told us to not fear
then so sweetly began singing

When we poured the water from her spout
each cup had magic sprinkles
she filled us with her charms
and said don't frown, you'll get wrinkles

Just remember me always
each day as you serve tea
and I'll be forever in your hearts
whenever you need me

Cute little piece! I enjoyed this and it brought back memories. I remember seeing the original movie when I was a kid, a big re-release, probably in honor of the 20th anniversary, in 1959.
I was so engrossed in the film, and loving every bit of it and then out came those cursed flying monkeys. Those things scared me witless.
A few years ago I traveled through the Wichita airport, and was so impressed to see all of the Wizard of Oz souvenirs for sale.
I look forward to you posting more of these poems up here soon.
I am going to send them on to a friend of mine on here that loves romantic poetry as well.
