The LakeA Poem by The Hampstead Poet
In despair, in happiness
I sat beside a lake And shimmering, I saw reflected My torment and heart-ache My soul was torn, my heart was cracked My smile and life stolen The light that was once life and laughter Gone, my fear had swollen The lake was not so clear, at once It boiled inky black Its clear, radiant beauty vanquished Its surface worn and cracked My tears fell fast as rainfall Down my cheeks and off my chin The world I saw before was different This one shadowed and dim But up I looked, and there saw you Adrift upon the breeze So carefree, your troubles gone So tranquil and at ease I looked at you and spoke Words I never thought I'd hear "I release you from this life" I said And at once, you disappeared
