I will never envision your unique struggles Too kind you are To wear Your heart out on your sleeves The pushpulldailygrind workday Disciplined wear thin of Donning a suit and tie for Obligations and adulting The essence of your families Will remain a mystery to me your mom Your sisters or brothers the frail insecurities you fight to hide Overcome On your path to becoming more Hope shows through As the sun comes up One more day Driving away the midnight horizon Your Inexpressible love A human bubble wrap Protecting precious ones Within your arms Mundane to mortality Are lived out daily What did you wish for? Cheering crowds calling your name A healing touch What young dreams did you put away? Maybe you Live out those dreams Right where you are What in this one precious life Has been bitter? Has driven you To your knees What has been almost unbearably sweet? In the midst of traversing your own path What I do know Is this You stretched out your arms to me In my deepest vulnerability My soul torn and afraid Of Cancer Of doctors giving me An expiration date You were individually Collectively A balm to me Thinking humans could not Surprise me anymore Your sacrifice and honor Toward a stranger Amazing me Demolishing defenses Sent my sense of despair Into a tailspin The blanket of love In which you enveloped me Taught me the importance The vitality Of community The term one precious life comes from poet Mary Oliver Thank you Mary © 2019 jane7z |
