Lily White SkinA Poem by jane7zI can't pretend to understand When people have Turned you down for work For being black, brown, red or yellow. I have the privilege Undeserved of lily white skin I can't understand when The klu klux klan Would torture you Because you were a Jew Or black, brown, red, or yellow My lily white skin Has undeniably Protected me from them I can't understand When they segregated you In schools Put you at they Back of the bus Simply because you were Black, brown, red, or yellow I have unreservedly Traveled anywhere Thanks to my lily white skin What I do know it that All our blood Runs red Peel the skin away How can you tell If I am black, brown, red, yellow Or lily white We are humanity So I reach out to you With empathy My heart hurts for Your pain For the ignorance That has divided us Brought on by Racism and bigotry Caused by something As insignificant as the color of our Skin © 2014 jane7zFeatured ReviewReviews
