Dying Chrysalis

Dying Chrysalis

A Poem by Jamilah Le
"

This is the first time I've written lyrics. I generally write fantasy. Been listening to a lot of Tori Amos.

Dying Chrysalis

Sometimes I thought that she could be the liar,

That our stardust and castle in the sky

Could be salvaged wood burning in the fire.

What we didn’t know, what we couldn’t see, was

We changed our ways, there is no us,

There is a faint version of you, and there is a me.

(Chorus) Drown in your own sorrows,

Don’t feel pity for what I’ve become,

I am no longer what I’ve been,

I took steps forward.

You stayed behind, was lulled into

That backwards stream.

I am the chrysalis that opened

 to be the butterfly.

You are the chrysalis that scorned

To be,

And you just died.

We place our connections in brackets now,

Whisper quiet, a back thought,

Between what words are read aloud.

Your face is unknown to me now

In the midst of that giant hustling crowd.

(Bridge) My heart burns at the thought.

My mind tears at the thought

That you can’t be saved

That you can’t be helped, be saved.

(Chorus) Drown in your own sorrows,

Don’t feel pity for what I’ve become,

I am no longer what I’ve been,

I took steps forward.

You stayed behind, was lulled into

That backwards stream.

I am the chrysalis that opened

 to be the butterfly.

You are the chrysalis that scorned,

To be,

And you just died.

You stirred the demons into my cup,

It was meant for me but you drank them up.

Now when you sing, the words burn me.

Sometimes when I hear the song,

My heart turns to lead,

Sometimes when I hear the song,

I know what’s being said,

Because it’s screaming in my head.

I hear you, you know it.

You don’t hear me, you know it.

Even if I’m screaming in your head.

(Bridge) My heart burns at the thought.

My mind tears at the thought

That you can’t be saved

That you can’t be helped, be saved,

By anyone, by no one,

And not ever... by me.
