The sun in winterA Poem by jamessmcdonnellThe latter days of my mother. The sun in winter. James Mcdonnell Summer is long gone her eyes now dull and grey The night is drawing in White and luminous her hair Her limbs are frail and thin Her days are short now The sun’s rays only seldom shine But through the gloom - a glimmer! Sun’s rays skip across the clouds as her laughter shimmers Bright and golden - peals of laughter Dancing-dappled air around her crackles A sudden brilliant flash Lights the room up as she cackles It will not be long now Until the last red sliver Sinks finally below the earth. The long bleak winter of her passing and the absence of her mirth But oh! The pleasure Of that golden treasure laughters brilliance Before the darkness came. © 2016 jamessmcdonnell
