Red Mailbox

Red Mailbox

A Poem by James Carraway

This red mailbox
Has seen the war
This red mailbox
Has seen us before
We threw out our values
And saw how much more
We could accomplish and be
When we opened the door
This red mailbox
Has seen the scare
This red mailbox
Has seen us naked and bare
Those days before we realized
It didn’t matter who stared
Our bodies don’t define us
So don’t you dare
This red mailbox
Has seen protesting hippies
This red mailbox
Stills sees protesting hippies
Because we aren’t there yet
And we may never be
But we will keep fighting

You watch and see.
