At the Heart of the Bigtop.

At the Heart of the Bigtop.

A Poem by JAM

Completely in tune with his feelings

he lets her play her                  games.

He lets her throw knives

            at his heart.

Each dagger closer than the one before.

She spins him on a wheel

to add suspense and heightened danger.

The crowd knows she’ll never hit him.

On mishap, a misjudged toss

could impale his life on a blade.

This they both know, and yet, she taunts him.

Only to actually stab him

                        when she grows careless.
