My Grandma.A Poem by jadineThis is a poem that I wrote when my grandma passed away. We were very close; I lived with her my whole life.Remember the time
when I got lost in the store, I looked around But you were gone Nowhere to be found. Well this time was
worse. Looking at you in
that hospital bed, Weak and slowly
slipping away. You talked and I
listened. You asked and I promised. I stood there while
you laid. I was in disbelief. Denial even. You can’t leave, I thought over and
over again. I sang the song. You know the one. When things were bad,
you always sang it to me. This time it was my
turn to sing to you. So I did. And I cried. But I cried even more When you reached for
my hand And you said, “I remember.” The woman whose mind Was slowly
deteriorating Remembered. You remembered. You looked at me And I looked back at
you. Then that was it. I walked away. And when I got to the
end of the hall, I looked around But you were gone. Nowhere to be found. This time was worse. © 2017 jadineReviews
