The Cowardice of FaultA Poem by Julie A MartinWaiting for someone to make a mistake before breaking up.Waiting for him to make a mistake, a mis-step cluelessly won To the cowardice of fault. That you want to leave, with no marks Shed the responsibility of guilt, the flowers of freedom are yours Paying attention to things long since left to gather dust, in your vain search For pristine excuses, for rationalizations, for what he might do wrong. But if you want to leave, then leave. If you want to be free, be free. Don’t keep him on ice while you lay in wait for him to slip. Don’t stomp on his heart with the steel-toed boots of blame. There is no honor in covert hostility, moral high ground is low False patience leads to heated resentment, is that the price of pride? Stand tall, look straight ahead, and say “Goodbye” with tears and truth not lies Do not fall prey to the Cowardice of Fault. Or be a liar in your own eye - See more at: https://scriggler.com/DetailPost/Poetry/31682#sthash.qEPL4sPR.dpuf© 2016 Julie A Martin |
