Awakening

Awakening

A Poem by The Midnight Writer
"

A poem/tale of my love for a lady in my life.

"

That one night,

oh the memory remains of that one night,

when I met her lips with all my heart and all my love was hers.

I remember as how she sat down beside me,

worrying more than I about our future.

But as she worried, I embraced and comforted her.

It was then that our eyes aligned for only a moment,

when our hearts were one, and our lips had joined.

It lasted not but a second, but it felt like hours.

Our eyes closed and hearts in rhythm,

we didn't want our last wonderful kiss to end.

But when my eyes opened and our lips broke,

it seemed that our love was already over.

I opened my eyes to see… darkness surrounding us.

I look and see the edges of our small world dematerializing,

falling away into the darkness like leaves from a tree.

My heart races to embrace her again for I don't want our love to end.

As the void edges ever closer, I become more afraid.

Afraid of the end. Afraid of being alone forever.

Afraid of losing her.

My time in my paradise of love is slowly ending,

as she herself starts to shatter like glass and blow away in the wind.

It is over.

I am truly alone now, lost and forgotten by the world.

In the darkness I scream and plead to whatever may be out there to bring her back, to fix what is left of my life.

But there is nothing. Just the echo’s of my last cry of hope.

I am dieing without her.

Without her my life has no purpose, no meaning or moral.

Just the black that consumes me.

I close my eyes and try to imagine her face but to no avail.

When I open my eyes, there is nothing left of my love.

I have awakened now with nothing but stories to tell.

The tale of our love that is no longer real.

I die now, knowing that she is on the other side waiting to embrace me as I had embraced her so long ago.

Beautiful and kind words for love.

True love is part of us and is never forgotten. A powerful story with a sad ending. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
