Say So YouA Poem by jaimeTo you I am dead in the street But all that’s left is chalk lines Around what was me to you. And what you see On the inside Is a black rock That’s been crushed, used, And driven over And painted on With still white lines And still white lies Spill from your lips And smear away what’s left Of me to you. And you are blind to the memory Of the little girl between the lines In the street that runs All over town And in front of cars If that’s what it took to win. And she would crawl on her knees Down that street If that’s what it took to win The race. And you. And you don’t see what this means To me and you. So you don’t know that girl That once was in a line With the others waiting for the gun; Her life was running Past the others; And she didn’t stop running ’Til she was taken down At the knees One at a time For a lesser love. "And the line you crossed was thin When you crawled into the rest of your life.", Say so you. © 2008 jaimeReviews
