My real life account of SEPT 11

SEPT. 11, 2001

7:30 am ~ I dropped my 3 y/o daughter Sidney off at Kiddie College. Took my (ex) husband to work and returned home to my gorgeous duplex on Cherry Street in Olney. We had just moved in a few months earlier. A few weeks before our youngest, Nicolas was born.

8:00am ~ It was a calm, typical morning. Once home I made breakfast for Kennedy (then 2 y/o) and headed upstairs to give the baby (3 mo old) a bottle. I was sitting on my bed feeding Nicolas when I turned on the news. This was our daily ritual and I expected to see nothng but the weather. On every channel there were these images of gray "snow" and fire. The reporters were among the most emotional as their job was to calm the fears of America and yet they couldnt calm themselves. There were so many questions and so little answers.

8:30 am ~ The stories flooded the media. No definite answers but many speculations. They told us of short supplies of milk, gas, and other necessities. Screaming "GET IT WHILE YOU CAN" as we may be going to war. I jumped off the bed with baby in tow. Grabbed Kennedy from her breakfast and RAN out of the house. I pulled up to Olney Central College and saw the parking lot flooded with vehicles. Many which I recognized from the daily drop off and pick up routine of our children. Yet, some I had never seen. Panicking more by this site I ran into the childrens area and grabbed my lil girl. The teacher was crying and so were many of the mommies. I remember sitting in that floor with all three of my babies just watching as the strength of America broke down. I could relate, as I felt we were the ones who were given the duty to protect our children. At that moment in time, nothing was certain. Not even the mommies could make this boo boo better.

Six years have passed since this frightening morning. The world has moved on and my children have grown. None the wiser to the events that shook up our lives in that lil duplex on Cherry Street.
