The Awakening

The Awakening

A Poem by Matt Stewart

This heart of mine has seen joy and pain;

I've felt God's embrace and felt sins stain.

The conflict within remains between wrong and right;

A fight between the flesh and the inner light.

I'm not able on my own to defeat the filth of my sin,

Thus, I turn to my Savior who has put this war to an end.

This isn't just some name I bare, it comes with sacrifice;]

I have to give up worldly existence so they may see the inner light.

Life is only a vapor, and we're never promised another day,

Yet we claim this is "our time" while the world slips away.

Truth echos in the streets, yet we turn a deaf ear

Simply because conviction is something we don't want to bear.

Pride is like a cancer, eating away at our hearts,

Yet we feed it with our words that eventually tear unity apart.

We make empty promises and take love in vain,

Only adding to the investment we've made in sin and shame.

There's hope for humanity, but in no other name;

Christ is reaching out his arms, the Holy One who was slain.

Why are w e so quick to give in to fear, deciet, and doubt?

We daily pass Him by, though He's our only way out.

I see crosses around necks, but within empty hearts,

A religious brand on a shirt even though in spirit we're torn apart.

They see the smile on my face and shy away as if I'm a lepher,

When the truth is I smile because I now know the answer.

The secret to life is in our reach if we would let go of our pride,

Let empty promises waste away, and let Him cleanse our eyes.

Jesus is who we should be seeking, and following in His way;

The dawn is approaching, and there's still time, so don't waste another day.

Humble yourself, take heed of His word, and every single command.

Because the King of Glory is coming back to reclaim this spiritually barren land.

Warnings still resurface; echos from the past

That proclaim Gods justice upon those who put Him last.

God is a God of love, and is our strong defense;

He is our shield and our fortress when our hope seems spent.

We're all future kings and queens, God's own sons and daughters;

Don't let ignorance be the reason so many go to the slaughter.

Right now there's false prophets and preachers leading the flock away,

Yet the good shephard will return for them on that blessed, fateful day.

I've had enough of all these games, truth is what we need.

It's time we give up our own efforts, and surrender to the Risen King.

He'll lay waste to all those who led the body astray.

We have the blessed assurance He will return for us one day.
