Great Divide

Great Divide

A Poem by Matt Stewart

I can see the sun rising upon this narrow road;

Even at my weakest, your grace, it still unfolds.

With every breath I take I feel your presence here;

You give me strength and comfort, and rid me of my fears.

I've been on the fine line between wrong and right,

I've walked within the darkness to step back into life.

I've had my share of laughter and tears; I've felt pleasure and pain,

But I really never knew true peace until I heard your name.

You called me in the wilderness when I could find no peace,

Delivered me from the evil I knew, and I felt the blessed release.

You've redeemed me of all my sin, and gave me wings to fly.

You showed me the one and only way to find eternal life.

How humbled am I by your majesty and captured by your love?

I pledge to go wherever you lead; your grace is more than enough.

Like a withering flower in the desert sand my heart was bare and dry;

You sent your love in a redeeming flood, and brought my soul to life.

No matter what pages I turn, whatever road I'm on

I know you'll be right here with me to remind me I'm not alone.

Through every twist and turn, within every valley and sea,

Your love, it is limitless and forever abides in me.

I never knew true peace until I trusted in you.

Giving my life to serve you is the least that I can do.

I pray to be gentle as a dove with the tender heart of a child,

Reaching out through faith and love until the day I die.

I'll set out in the wilderness, with courage to proclaim your name;

I'll take joy in your mercy and grace through the sun and the rain.

I take courage, for you are in my heart as I cross the great divide,

And the light of Christ shall overtake those who's souls have run dry.

Someday we will be as one as we worship before the throne

Of our Savior, Redeemer, and Risen King, when we find we're finally home.
