6/9/11A Chapter by Matt Stewart6/9/11
It's now been a week here in La Roca, but I've had such a wholsome and loving experience here already. Being here has taught me so much, including how to be flexible. Much I've done here has been decided a day or moment before so I've learned to be prepared for about anything. For example, I found out today I'll be preaching for the first time in my life for the people here around my age. I'm discussing 1 Timothy 6, and about how we are to be content with what God has blessed us with.
After a church service at a Presbyterian church in Lima some kids came up to me asking me questions in Spanish. They realized my dialect was very limited so they taught me a few things. They taught me to say shirt (camissa), pants (pantelones), shoes (zapatos), table (mesa) and a few other words.
On the way home I wanted to learn more, so I would point to a building or street sign to ask what the translation was in English. Personally I think if you just listen, ask questions, and think in the dialect, it doesn't take long to get a good portion of it down. I would say the best part of today was of course being with the kids, but also expanding my limited Spanish vocabulary. © 2011 Matt Stewart |
