A Chapter by Matt Stewart

I've realized a few things after being here for a few days:
1)The more time you spend with the people, the better you speak the language.
2)Peruvians have some of the best food and coffee EVER.
3)If you want to get a shower, wake up at the crack of dawn before everyone else.
4)All Peruvians are great at soccer.
This day has truly been a blessing. After breakfast at Eva's, we waited for Santiago and Elise to arrive at noon. Today was election day so church couldn't be held this morning, but every other Sunday morning they have service.
Ruth, Santiago, and Elise came with us to the Lima mall for lunch. I've noticed something here about the food, it's healthier and even chains like McDonalds, Burger King, and Subway taste better here than in America. After lunch we arrived at La Roca at four o'clock to prepare for church at six. After taking an hour to practice, worship started. The unity and love of La Roca is amazing, and during the service I performed How Great Is Our God in Spanish (Cuan Grande es mi Dios) and received a loving ovation from the people even though my accent wasn't the best.
After my performance Dr. Huguley preached on Psalm  2, and how everyday we should "kiss the Son" to show submission, much as the ladies young and old here give a kiss on the cheek as a welcome. After service all the people met to socialize in fellowship, and I couldn't believe the love displayed by the Peruvian people. I wish more churches in my country were this loving and unified, not just twisting the word of God for their own gain. I don't want to be mistaken, I love my country and take pride in our freedom, the same freedoms they have here by the way, but there is much to learn from every culture, and I want to bring back home these warm feelings. I want to bring back home the devotion and love displayed here, and one day to make a difference in someones life with all I've learned from mi familia already.
