6/3/11A Chapter by Matt Stewart6/3/11
Went to bed at 2 this morning and woke up at 7. For five hours of sleep things have gone really well today, and I've managed to stay awake. Around 8:30, Juan's wife Eva served us breakfast, then we headed to the church service for many adults, where Dr. Huguley, Carol Dye, and Derrick Ambrose talked about the importance of family and discipline. I must say, even I, being single and without children learned a lot from it.
Right after service I met with Elise in her classroom, and she has been kind enough to give me the opportunity next week to observe her class. I am so excited to see the children learn and grow, and more importantly to teach them of God's word.
After I got a shower Eva provided us with a delicious lunch. Since then some of the crew have been napping, so I'm hanging out around the compound. It's amazing to me in such a place of poverty there is such beauty and joy. It's only the first day, but God has been revealing so much to me today. I know back home there have been times I've been rude, selfish, and arrogant, and I hope the people I've wronged can find it in their hearts to forgive me. I'm so far from home, yet I feel His love and mercy all around me. This is what it's about; laying down your life for your brothers and sisters, so that the may experience Christ's love. What a blessing this is.
At five o'clock we met Keesa at the gate of the school as we rode towards a chapel in the suburb of Jose Galvez. After spending time talking with Keesa I found out she was from Alabama also, but after falling in love with the people here as I have, she chose to stay. She's a very intelligent and sweet girl and I know these next two weeks will be great getting to know her and the staff better.
I can't help but feel like I belong here; the people have been amazing, the city is beautiful, and the question on my mind is "Can God use me in their ministry here?" Only time will tell. All I know is that being 25 and single, I have a lot of opportunities to grow. What is morst important above all is to seek God's will for my life in this experience. © 2011 Matt Stewart |
